# Voice input

> Talk to eeva instead of typing — brain-dump, log repairs, and check on your home hands-free.

You can speak to eeva instead of typing. Voice is handy for brain-dumping several thoughts in one go or logging something with your hands full. Your words transcribe live in the composer, and nothing leaves your device until you send it.

## Talk to eeva

    In the composer, tap the microphone icon.

  <Step title="Read the intro (first time only)">
    The first time, a sheet appears: "Use voice to chat" — "Use your voice to brain dump, log repairs, and check on your home hands-free." It notes that you can brain-dump multiple thoughts in one go, speak in English, Japanese, or any supported language, and that recordings stay on your device until you send them to eeva.

  <Step title="Start speaking">
    Recording begins and the composer placeholder shows "Listening…". Your words transcribe live as you talk, so you can watch the text build.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send it">
    When you're done, send the message. eeva reads what you said and, if it proposes any records, shows action cards for you to confirm.

<Tip>
  Voice is the fastest way to brain-dump. Say everything on your mind in one recording and let eeva sort it into tasks and records.

## Attachments

The "+" next to the composer lets you attach instead of speak: "Upload a document" or "Scan an appliance label". For scanning, see [Scanning & cards in chat](/05-ask-eeva/scanning-and-cards-in-chat).

## Microphone permission

Voice needs access to your microphone. If it's blocked, eeva can't hear you until you allow it in iOS Settings.

### Mic access blocked

If you've denied microphone access, you'll see "Mic access blocked" — "Allow microphone access in Settings to talk to eeva. You can still type your message." To enable it, open the iOS Settings app, find eeva, and turn on Microphone. Then come back to the chat and tap the mic again. In the meantime, you can always type your message instead.
